This is my final product for the Movie Script Project. For this project I felt as if I used a variety of shots well, despite the lighting being an issue throughout. In addition to this I felt like the audio during editing was a problem; things like wind and the quality of the camera's audio posed an irritating issue. Also, I felt as if the shot in which I target the camera at both subjects quickly in a conversatory style (00;50-00;58). The fact that the shot was POV suggests that there was a third person in the room, in the script this is not the case. Also, I believe the actors I cast did a good job with the acting and the delivery of the lines. I did, however, have some continuity errors during editing. In the shot in which one of my actors open the door to the interrogation room, I had another shot which I did not use of him opening another door to give the impression that the same door was being opened. On the exterior shot he used his left hand, on the second he used his right.
Overall, I feel as if my project went quite well. However there are some things I could improve on.
00:05 - I quite like this opening zoom, which works well along with the soundtrack, although a couple of establishing ELSs would improve this opening. The zoom itself is possible a little fast
ReplyDelete00:12 - an effective ELS and a smooth pan
00:15 - quite a smooth tilt, although I'm not sure about the fade through white. seems a little odd to cut to the door again in the next shot, although I can see you've gone to POV. Might have been helpful to have your character enter in this shot?
00:22 - you need to be a little more consistent with your editing choices - seems a little strange to be fading through white and then through black? However, I do like the opening lines being presented in B/O
00:30 - you have some hiss on the soundtrack; this is something to be aware of. You also need to think about the lighting - it is very hard to see what is happening in this shot
00:33 - your volume levels are not consistent. You need to go over your piece and adjust the volume so that the dialogue sounds roughly the same throughout
00:38 - it's a little unusual to cut between two shots which are roughly the same, as you have done here. Also, the lighting has changed (your subject's face is slightly more pale and washed out). This is to do with white balance, which can be affected by lighting shifts between takes. There seems to be a lot of interference on the soundtrack here, which is possibly to do with whoever is handling the camera. I do like the idea of shooting from POV although as you have identified it does suggest more than two people in the room
00:43 - it's unusual to fade between two shots which are part of the same scene - normally, you would only crossfade at the beginning or end of a sequence. I'm pleased you're using a range of angles and setups
00:49 - very hard to see what is going on here; again, your audio volume has changed
00:50 - I like the fast diagonal tilt here, and the zoom at the end, although it is slighty undermined by the fade at the end - you really don't need this. You might want to think again about consistency - generally, if you were going to use dynamic camerawork like this, you should be doing it throughout.
Overall, this is a good attempt - there is some interesting and engaging camerawork here as well as some inventive use of location. You've managed to organise and edit your work successfully and you have completed your project within the required time limit. To improve, you need to think about both lighting and sound; you also need to think about editing and making sure that your sequence flows more effectively. Well done.
Don't forget that you should be blogging regularly about your planning for this current project. I'd hope to see at least three detailed blog entries per week, ideally using a range of media forms (Vlog, podcast, slideshow etc.) to communicate your developing ideas.
